Effects of Land Quality on Land Use: Farm-level Panel-data Evidence from Viet Nam

The sustainable livelihoods framework (SLF) is a comprehensive way to study agricultural issues. So far, our best knowledge, no has applied the SLF examine influence of land quality on use intensively. current research examines effects farmers’ decision-making in Vietnam by modifying and using fixed regression model. method controlled household commune-level unobserved invariant characteristics resulted more robust estimates than pooled Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) estimation. sample five-wave panel dataset 2008-2016 with 1,534 farm households. results reveal that affects land-use choices through several aspects quality. More specifically, regarding topography, plot fertility level, locations, soil water conservation, show their reflect cultivating practices for each type sample. Findings also irrigation system positively rice production Vietnam. Policymakers should consider various when designing policies programs relating use, distribution, especially master plan rural development.
